Mrs., Maybel Iona Saunders, of Wallaceburg, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at The Blue Water Health CEE site, In Petrolia, after a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 87 years. She was born in Camden Township and was a daughter of the late Earl and Marjorie Houston. Beloved wife of the late Charles Saunders. Cherished mother of Brenda and Joe Blake, Wayne and Shirley Saunders, Lucy and Tom Scott, Rick Saunders and Nancy Fuchs. Idolized grandmother of Chris Blake & Amy Vanhaverbeke, Jodi and Bryce McBain, Brad Scott and Jen Lima, Jennifer and Max Derrick, Ryan and Karlene Scott, Kira Saunders, Greg Saunders, Michael Poole, Melissa Poole and Nick Lund and Griffin Fuchs. Loving great grandmother to Leah and Carly McBain, Benjamin Blake, Kelby and Kaeley Derrick and Cole Scott. Special nana to Rob, Elaine, Shane, Brooke & Erin Lee, Carol Koop, Heather and Brian, Morgan Levens. Kind sister of Annie Joyce ands Alice London. sister-in-law of Lucy Saunders. Also survive by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her brothers Tom Houston and Harold Bud Houston. Mom was devoted to her family. Her favourite moments were spent with all her adored grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a avid fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Blue Jays. The late Iona Saunders rested at the Eric F. Nicholls Funeral Home, 639 Elgin Wallaceburg. Cremation has taken place and interment of Ashes was in Riverview Cemetery, Wallaceburg.
