Obituary

Mrs. Marielouise DeRidder, a resident of Wallaceburg, passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Fairfield Park at the age of 79 years. Marielouise was born in Belgium and came to Wallaceburg in 1939. She was the daughter of the late Eugene and Zulma (Blockeel) Cosyns. Beloved wife of the late Francis DeRidder (2003). Loving mother and mother-in-law of Sandra & Ronald Como and Patrick & Patricia DeRidder, all of Wallaceburg. Dear grandmother to Jennifer and Kristin Como and Jake and Justin DeRidder. Marielouise's love of children was evident in her involvement as a founder and volunteer for numerous organizations. She was an avid volunteer with children's groups at her church and was a member of Girl Guides since 1967. Along with three friends, she founded Camp Peco Dah Quah where she spent the next 15 years improving the camp. She was also a member of the Girl Guide Kent Division Trefoil Guild. She helped establish the A.C.L.C. (Association for Children with Learning Disabilities). Her love of children also led her to volunteer with the Boy Scouts of Canada. In 1984, she became the first Manager of the Wallaceburg Museum and was also a member of the Sombra Museum. Marielouise was instrumental in establishing the Lend a Hand Breakfast Program in 1990. A private service will be held at the funeral home. Donations to the Lend A Hand Breakfast Program or the Wallaceburg Museum may be left at the funeral home.
