Lukas (Nystad) Nijstad, a resident of Wallaceburg, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2009, at the Windsor Regional Hospital, in Windsor, at the age of 69 years. Lukas was born in Zwolle, Holland and was a son of the late Jacobus and Margery Nystad. He arrived in Canada in June, 1953 on the Grotebeer. He was an employee of the Glass Factory for over 40 years. Beloved husband of the late Sharon Nystad (2004). Loving father and father-in-law of: Michelle & Rick Furtah of Wallaceburg and Steffani Nystad & fiance Shaun Kohl of Glencoe. Sadly missed by his grandchildren (Pa and Opa to): Anastasia, Connor, Kaleb, Sarah, Rylan and Isabella. Kind brother of John Nijstad of White Horse, N.W.T., Lilian Rathmell of Wallaceburg and brother-in-law of: Shurlee & Richard King, Sandra & Bill Simpson, Steffani & Garry Stallaert, Pepi & Len Van Campen, and Madeline & the late Barry Daniels. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and family in Holland. The late Lukas Nystad rested at the Eric F. Nicholls Funeral Home, 639 Elgin St., Wallaceburg until Saturday, June 6, 2009 when funeral services were held, in the chapel of the funeral home, at 11am, with Rev. Len Myers, Officiant. Interment of cremated remains in Riverview Cemetery, Wallaceburg. Donations to Ducks Unlimited or the Canadian Cancer Society may be left at the funeral home.
