Joyce was a Hairdresser who retired from LaPointe-Fischer Nursing Home. She was also, the former owner of Joy-El Beauty Salon in St.Thomas, Ontario. Joyce always had her scissors with her; there was never a family function that you wouldn't find her giving someone a trim. In her final days, Joyce enjoyed spending time in the hair salon at Fairfield Park getting her hair done. Joyce loved participating and travelling to her children's and grandchildren's many assorted activities. In her quiet time she enjoyed baking, knitting, working outside in the yard, and watching the Toronto Blue Jays and the West Virginia Mountaineers. She loved to sit and read by the fireplace, and if she had a grandchild on her lap or beside her it was even more enjoyable. In the past few years she enjoyed reminiscing about convertible rides in February and March, sunny days at Port Stanley for fries, orange aide and "you couldn't forget a stop at Shaw's Dairy Store", dances at the Stork Club, wrestling matches in London on a Saturday night, trips to Hamilton to watch the Ottawa Roughriders vs. the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and the many trips to visit a relative or a place of interest that she had read about. Joyce was always ready for the next adventure and loved a good conversation about a conspiracy. She had a tender, caring spirit and always looked after others before herself. Joyce was happiest when she was spending time with her family and rarely missed a family picnic or Christmas. We are thankful that she was able to spend some of this last Christmas with us. Joyce was a member of Trinity United Church in Wallaceburg, and a former member of St. James Anglican Church in Wallaceburg, Central United Church St. Thomas and the Order of the Eastern Star – St. Thomas Chapter.
The Late Joyce Young is resting at the Eric F. Nicholls Funeral Home, 633 Elgin Street, Wallaceburg, Ont. 519-627-2861. Following her wishes, cremation will take place and a memorial Service will be held at a later date.
In Lieu of Flowers, the family requests donations to Mom's Baby Cupboard – St. James, Anglican Church Wallaceburg, Ontario or Salvation Army Family Services Food Bank – Wallaceburg, Ontario. At Joyce's request a private family service to take place. A celebration of Joyce's life and scattering to take place in St. Thomas in June.
