Mrs. Ida Berkvens, a resident of Wallaceburg and formerly of Port Lambton, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at the age of 78 years. Ida was born in Holland and was a daughter of the Matheus and Maria (Loomans) Swinkles. Beloved wife of the late Jim Berkvens. Loving mother and mother-in-law of John and Luanne Berkvens, Marilyn and Ron Horner, Nancy and Randy Bechard, Mike and Pauline Berkvens and Joe and Susan Berkvens. Sadly missed by her grandchildren, Theresa, Taryn, Amanda, Allison, Samantha, Sean, Lindsay, Chad, Tyler, Michelle, Matthew, Bailey, Abby and Adam. Loving great grandmother of Geremia and Isabella. Kind sister and sister-in-law of Louis and Sina Swinkles, Catherine and Hub Van Lierop, Dina and Harry Van Bommel, Miet and Jan Berkers all of Holland, Mary Swinkles of Nova Scotia. Predeceased by her brothers Harry, Toon, Tjeu, Jan and Johan. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at the Eric F. Nicholls Funeral Home, 639 Elgin St. Wallaceburg from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Prayers Wednesday 7pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday, December 24, 2009 at Sacred Heart Church, in Port Lambton at 10:30 am. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society may be left at the funeral home.
