Helen
Walton-Mccann
Aug 2, 1932 — Sep 11, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our beloved Mother, Grandmother and friend. Mrs. Helen Margaret Walton-McCann, a resident of Wallaceburg, formerly of Port Lambton, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, in Chatham at the age of 92.
Helen was born in Walpole Island and was a daughter of the late Archie and Margaret (Webb) Highfield.
Beloved wife of the late Hugh McCann (2016) and the late Kenneth Walton (1988).
Loving mother of Carol (Bruce) Thompson, Michael Walton, Murray (Dianne) Walton and Martin Walton and stepmother of Robert McCann, Hugh (Mandy) McCann Jr., Darlene (Doug) Bateman, and Bill Ballantyne.
Sadly missed by 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
Predeceased by her her grandson Adam, her sister Marian (Nick) Davich, and her brothers Ernest (Lily May) Highfield, Joseph (Alice) Highfield, Clarence (May) Highfield, Allen (Lorraine) Highfield and Simpson (Lorraine) Brigham.
Helen was a woman who found joy in the simple, beautiful things in life - especially in her garden, where she nurtured both plants and peace. Whether she was tending to her flowers or spending quiet moments by the river, nature was always her companion. More than anything, she cherished her family. Family gatherings were filled with love, laughter and delicious meals and treats that she so lovingly prepared. Her kitchen was the heart of her home and her presence brought warmth to every celebration. We will miss her deeply but will forever carry the memories of her love and the joy she brought to all of our lives.
Helen was a member of St. James Anglican Church in Port Lambton, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 18 and a District Commissioner of Girl Guides of Canada.
The family would like to thank Dr. Crombeen and the Bluewater Health Palliative Care team in Sarnia, the staff of the Oaks Retirement Village, especially those in Memory Care Unit during the last 8 months of her stay. We appreciated all you did to keep her safe and comfortable. We would also like to thank Dr. Naeem, Karen and the nursing staff on the 4th floor of C.K.H.A. and Catherine of the Spiritual team who were there to answer all of our questions and keep her comfortable as she transitioned into the final stages of her life - for that we are so grateful.
