Mr. Gordon Richard Brookes, a long-time resident of Wallaceburg passed away on July 25, 2023 at Oakville Trafalgar Hospital after a short but brave fight against cancer. He was 89 years old.
Gordon was born in Birmingham, England and was the only son of the late Edward and Phoebe (Hale) Brookes.
Beloved husband of the late Anne Brookes (2013).
Loving father to Richard (Christina) Brookes
Dear grandfather of Connor, Justin and Hayley.
Caring brother of Lillian (the late Len) Lumsden, Doreen (Phil) Knott and the late Beryl Wilkes.
He will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews.
Gordon had a long career as an Engineer with an expertise in aluminum diecast technology. He brought this knowledge to companies across the globe and was regarded as a leader in his field.
Gordon loved nature and was an ardent cyclist in his youth. He was also was an avid ornithologist and belonged to the Sydenham Naturalist Society. In addition, he was a member of the Wallaceburg Rotary Club.
His family and friends enjoyed his quick wit, colourful stories and historical knowledge. Gordon would always be remembered with a book in his hand and thoughtful words of advice or inspiration for his family and friends. He was always ready for good conversation and especially enjoyed some lively debates with his son. He loved his son, daughter in law and grandchildren deeply; he was very proud of each of them and enjoyed spending time with them all. He always encouraged his family to never give up and keep fighting to the end. This is a belief he held true to his last days.
Gordon Brookes is resting at the Eric F. Nicholls Funeral Home at 639 Elgin Street, Wallaceburg. His wishes for his final journey were "no muss, no fuss" and are being honoured with cremation and the interment of his ashes, along with his late wife's Anne, in Riverview Cemetery, Wallaceburg.
